Why did my State Farm home insurance go up in Arizona?
A State Farm renewal in Arizona is two documents: the company’s offer, and Arizona’s rule for how much warning a non-renewal must give. The clock we re-read is 30 days before the policy period ends. The 2022 HO-3 average here was $1,018. That is not your premium.
ARIZONA NOTICE
30 days before the policy period ends
A.R.S. § 20-1654
Unless the insurer sends the named insured notice at least 30 days before the end of the policy period that it will not renew, or that renewal is conditioned on reduced limits or eliminated coverages, it may not fail to renew if the renewal premium is paid. The notice has to state the specific facts behind a nonrenewal. Mid-term cancellation is a different, narrower event: the department says insurers are required to give 5 days’ notice and may cancel only for listed grounds. If a nonrenewal is based on the condition of the premises, the insured gets 30 days to remedy it. This section does not apply if the insured has accepted replacement coverage or agreed to nonrenewal.
Needs verificationNo State Farm rate order, exit, or moratorium specific to Arizona was confirmed in this review. Search SERFF and the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions filing search. The absence of a row here is not an absence of a filing.
Nonrenewals25.1 per 1,000 policies in 2024, the highest zone rate
Nominal average premium per policy rose 74% from 2018 to 2024 in the Western zone, before the inflation adjustment. The 2024 average was $1,600. Inflation-adjusted change since 2018: 43.3% after inflation, the high end of the four zones.
Public rate filings are posted in SERFF Filing Access when a state participates. Search the company and the homeowners line. A filing is a request until the regulator acts on it. Unless a row above cites a regulator or company release, this review did not download that company’s SERFF PDF. [26]
If the admitted market will not take the house
No FAIR plan named by DIFI. Arizona does not appear in the fiscal-year 2024 FAIR-plan table Triple-I republished. The department’s homeowners FAQ, read for this review, points people who cannot find coverage to a list of insurers willing to consider higher-wildfire-risk areas. That page does not name a state FAIR plan or a state insurer of last resort. Ask DIFI before you assume a residual-market policy exists. [38][22][28]
Find three dates: the date the notice was mailed, the date the policy expires, and the date the company says coverage ends.
Read the reason. “Underwriting reasons,” with nothing under it, is not an explanation you can appeal or fix.
Decide which letter you have. A nonrenewal, a mid-term cancellation, and a renewal that cuts coverage or raises the price are different notices, and states time them differently.
Keep paying the current policy until a new one is bound. A gap can put a mortgage into force-placed insurance, which protects the lender first.
Ask the company, in writing, for the declarations page, the replacement-cost estimate, and which rating factors changed.
If a mortgage company is on the policy, tell them you are replacing coverage before the old policy ends.
Shop admitted insurers. If you cannot find one, use the residual-market note on your state page. A FAIR plan or Citizens policy is often narrower than the policy you had.
Compare deductibles before you accept a lower premium. A percentage hurricane or wind deductible is a share of the dwelling limit, not a flat $1,000.
If the notice looks late or states no real reason, complain to the state insurance department and keep the envelope or the electronic-delivery record.
Ask about a mitigation credit only where the company will put the discount in writing: a new roof, opening protection, or defensible space, depending on the peril.
Why did my State Farm home insurance go up in Arizona?
Start with two different things: a Arizona rate change for State Farm, and a change in your own house (replacement cost, roof, claims, deductible, or coverage). The 2022 HO-3 average in Arizona was $1,018. It is not your premium and it is not a 2026 price. Any State Farm percentage confirmed for this state is in the filings section. If that section says needs verification, nobody on this page has read a Arizona order for this company. [22][26]
What is the non-renewal notice rule for State Farm in Arizona?
State Farm has to follow Arizona law, not a company timetable. 30 days before the policy period ends. What should I do in 2026 if State Farm nonrenews me in Arizona?
Count the days on the notice against the Arizona rule on this page, ask State Farm in writing for the reason and the rating worksheet, and do not drop the current policy until replacement coverage is bound. If you cannot find an admitted policy, read the residual-market note for No FAIR plan named by DIFI. Complaints go to Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions. [27][38]
