Why did my Farmers home insurance go up in Oklahoma?

A Farmers renewal in Oklahoma is two documents: the company’s offer, and Oklahoma’s rule for how much warning a non-renewal must give. The clock we re-read is 60 days, with a shorter clock for listed reasons. The 2022 HO-3 average here was $2,268. That is not your premium.

OKLAHOMA NOTICE

60 days, with a shorter clock for listed reasons

OAC 365:15-1-14 and 36 O.S. § 3639.1

Oklahoma Insurance Department Bulletin 2026-02 says permanent rules effective 25 July 2026 require at least 60 days’ notice before cancellation or nonrenewal of a homeowners policy or other personal residential coverage. If the reason is one listed in 36 O.S. § 3639.1(A), the same rule shortens that to 10 days for cancellation and 30 days for nonrenewal. A separate sentence in § 3639.1 requires written notice of a new premium, deductible, limit, or coverage at least 30 days before expiration. Commercial section 36 O.S. § 3639 is a different statute. Do not quote its 45-day commercial nonrenewal rule for a homeowners policy. Mail counts as given on the day it is mailed.

Public rate filings are posted in SERFF Filing Access when a state participates. Search the company and the homeowners line. A filing is a request until the regulator acts on it. Unless a row above cites a regulator or company release, this review did not download that company’s SERFF PDF. [26]

If the admitted market will not take the house

Needs verificationNeeds verification. This state does not appear in the fiscal-year 2024 FAIR-plan table the Insurance Information Institute republished from the Property Insurance Plans Service Office. A beach or wind pool can exist without appearing in that table. Needs verification on the department site. [22][28]

What to do this week

  1. Find three dates: the date the notice was mailed, the date the policy expires, and the date the company says coverage ends.
  2. Read the reason. “Underwriting reasons,” with nothing under it, is not an explanation you can appeal or fix.
  3. Decide which letter you have. A nonrenewal, a mid-term cancellation, and a renewal that cuts coverage or raises the price are different notices, and states time them differently.
  4. Keep paying the current policy until a new one is bound. A gap can put a mortgage into force-placed insurance, which protects the lender first.
  5. Ask the company, in writing, for the declarations page, the replacement-cost estimate, and which rating factors changed.
  6. If a mortgage company is on the policy, tell them you are replacing coverage before the old policy ends.
  7. Shop admitted insurers. If you cannot find one, use the residual-market note on your state page. A FAIR plan or Citizens policy is often narrower than the policy you had.
  8. Compare deductibles before you accept a lower premium. A percentage hurricane or wind deductible is a share of the dwelling limit, not a flat $1,000.
  9. If the notice looks late or states no real reason, complain to the state insurance department and keep the envelope or the electronic-delivery record.
  10. Ask about a mitigation credit only where the company will put the discount in writing: a new roof, opening protection, or defensible space, depending on the peril.

Questions people type

Why did my Farmers home insurance go up in Oklahoma?

Start with two different things: a Oklahoma rate change for Farmers, and a change in your own house (replacement cost, roof, claims, deductible, or coverage). The 2022 HO-3 average in Oklahoma was $2,268. It is not your premium and it is not a 2026 price. Any Farmers percentage confirmed for this state is in the filings section. If that section says needs verification, nobody on this page has read a Oklahoma order for this company. [22][26]

What is the non-renewal notice rule for Farmers in Oklahoma?

Farmers has to follow Oklahoma law, not a company timetable. 60 days, with a shorter clock for listed reasons. [39][40][41]

What should I do in 2026 if Farmers nonrenews me in Oklahoma?

Count the days on the notice against the Oklahoma rule on this page, ask Farmers in writing for the reason and the rating worksheet, and do not drop the current policy until replacement coverage is bound. If you cannot find an admitted policy, read the residual-market note for Needs verification. Complaints go to Oklahoma Insurance Department. [27][22]
