Why did my Amica home insurance go up in Georgia?

A Amica renewal in Georgia is two documents: the company’s offer, and Georgia’s rule for how much warning a non-renewal must give. The clock we re-read is 60 days for policies issued or renewed on or after 1 january 2026. The 2022 HO-3 average here was $1,655. That is not your premium.

GEORGIA NOTICE

60 days for policies issued or renewed on or after 1 January 2026

O.C.G.A. § 33-24-46(d)(1), as amended by SB 35

Senate Bill 35, signed in 2025, changed the homeowners nonrenewal notice in O.C.G.A. § 33-24-46(d)(1) from 30 days to 60 days. It took effect 1 January 2026 and applies to policies issued, delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed on or after that date. The insurer must mail or personally deliver written notice stating when nonrenewal will be effective, which cannot be less than 60 days from mailing or delivery, and must provide the reason or reasons. Notice also goes to the lienholder where applicable. A policy renewed before that effective date can sit under the old 30-day clock. Match the date on your declarations page.

Public rate filings are posted in SERFF Filing Access when a state participates. Search the company and the homeowners line. A filing is a request until the regulator acts on it. Unless a row above cites a regulator or company release, this review did not download that company’s SERFF PDF. [26]

What to do this week

  1. Find three dates: the date the notice was mailed, the date the policy expires, and the date the company says coverage ends.
  2. Read the reason. “Underwriting reasons,” with nothing under it, is not an explanation you can appeal or fix.
  3. Decide which letter you have. A nonrenewal, a mid-term cancellation, and a renewal that cuts coverage or raises the price are different notices, and states time them differently.
  4. Keep paying the current policy until a new one is bound. A gap can put a mortgage into force-placed insurance, which protects the lender first.
  5. Ask the company, in writing, for the declarations page, the replacement-cost estimate, and which rating factors changed.
  6. If a mortgage company is on the policy, tell them you are replacing coverage before the old policy ends.
  7. Shop admitted insurers. If you cannot find one, use the residual-market note on your state page. A FAIR plan or Citizens policy is often narrower than the policy you had.
  8. Compare deductibles before you accept a lower premium. A percentage hurricane or wind deductible is a share of the dwelling limit, not a flat $1,000.
  9. If the notice looks late or states no real reason, complain to the state insurance department and keep the envelope or the electronic-delivery record.
  10. Ask about a mitigation credit only where the company will put the discount in writing: a new roof, opening protection, or defensible space, depending on the peril.

Questions people type

Why did my Amica home insurance go up in Georgia?

Start with two different things: a Georgia rate change for Amica, and a change in your own house (replacement cost, roof, claims, deductible, or coverage). The 2022 HO-3 average in Georgia was $1,655. It is not your premium and it is not a 2026 price. Any Amica percentage confirmed for this state is in the filings section. If that section says needs verification, nobody on this page has read a Georgia order for this company. [22][26]

What is the non-renewal notice rule for Amica in Georgia?

Amica has to follow Georgia law, not a company timetable. 60 days for policies issued or renewed on or after 1 January 2026. [14]

What should I do in 2026 if Amica nonrenews me in Georgia?

Count the days on the notice against the Georgia rule on this page, ask Amica in writing for the reason and the rating worksheet, and do not drop the current policy until replacement coverage is bound. If you cannot find an admitted policy, read the residual-market note for Georgia FAIR plan. Complaints go to Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance. [27][22]
